How HST works
HST provinces have harmonized their provincial sales tax with the federal GST, so businesses charge one combined tax and file one return with the CRA. CRA guidance says receipts should show the total HST rate as a single line, not the federal and provincial parts separately.
The other provinces are not part of HST. Quebec, BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba charge GST plus their own provincial tax, and Alberta and the territories charge GST only.
