How Quebec income tax is different
Quebec is the only province that runs its own income tax system. Quebec residents file two returns: a federal return with the CRA and a provincial return with Revenu Québec.
Because Quebec funds some programs that the federal government funds elsewhere, Quebec residents get a 16.5% abatement (reduction) of their federal tax. Quebec workers also pay into the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) at 6.3% instead of CPP, a lower EI rate of 1.30%, and Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) premiums of 0.43%.
Quebec's 2026 brackets are 14% up to $54,345, 19% up to $108,680, 24% up to $132,245 and 25.75% above that. The basic personal amount is $18,952. Quebec workers can also deduct 6% of their employment or business income, up to $1,450, from Quebec taxable income (the deduction for workers), which this calculator includes.
